Located between the two main centers in the region, Rimouski to the east and Rivière-du-Loup to the west, Les Basques RCM is comprised of 11 municipalities and a population of approximately 9,848 people. The majority of services can be found in Trois-Pistoles, home of the celebrated Quebec writer Victor-Lévy Beaulieu.

The dominant economic activity in this RCM is without doubt the agriculture industry with 235 enterprises generating more than $20 million, of which more than $11 million comes from dairy farming. The food processing sector produces dairy products, maple products, spring water and potatoes.

Since 1992, the residential sector has seen the birth of industries that specialize in the fabrication of doors and windows, blinds, baths, fibreglass and resin products for medium-density fiberboard panels.

Taking into account the existing infrastructure and activities that focus on the theme of the French culture in North America, the region's cultural heritage and the many natural attractions, Les Basques region has also identified cultural tourism as a sector for development. The École de langue française, the Parc de l'aventure basque en Amérique, Victor-Lévy Beaulieu's house and whale watching excursions are some examples of the cultural dynamic which exists in Les Basques region.
