The most populated RCM of the Bas-Saint-Laurent, Rimouski-Neigette is home to 53,878 residents distributed among 10 municipalities. Along the coast is the city of Rimouski, the largest urban center of the Bas-Saint-Laurent region. Stretching further to the south is the rural area of Haut pays de La Neigette.

The dual nature of the Rimouski-Neigette region influences the local economy. In the Haut pays de La Neigette area, economic activity is primarily based on the exploitation and processing of agricultural and forestry resources. Rimouski, on the other hand, is essentially the regional center for the delivery of a wide range of private and public services including business, culture, higher education (at the Université du Québec à Rimouski, UQAR), health, communications, R&D and technology transfer, which is linked primarily to the sectors of ocean sciences and marine resources.

TELUS, the 2nd most important canadian telecommunication company, has an important regional headquarter in Rimouski. Thanks to research and innovative technology this company has conquered international markets.

In the manufacturing sector, Rimouski-Neigette has developed a high level of competence in the fabrication of industrial machinery, electronic equipment and fiber optic production.
