From 1994 to 1995 there was an overall increase of 18.5% in service jobs linked to the tertiary sector. More specifically, there was a regional increase of 10.3% in the finance, insurance and real estate sectors.

The tertiary sector continues to be the largest employer in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region. Transportation, communications and tourism play a major role in this sector and together they registered 11.5% growth in 1994-95.
